(12 dic. 1806, Rome, Ga., EE.UU.–9 sep. 1871).

Jefe indio norteamericano. Aprendió inglés en una escuela de misión y colaboró en la publicación del Cherokee Phoenix, periódico de la tribu. En 1835 se reunió con otros tres jefes cherokees para firmar el tratado de Nueva Echota, mediante el cual se entregaron las tierras que poseía la tribu en Georgia y se obligó a la tribu migrar a territorio indio en la actual Oklahoma. Durante la guerra de Secesión organizó un regimiento cherokee de fusileros a caballo y se incorporó al ejército de la Confederación. Dirigió incursiones de caballería a los campos y demás propiedades de indios que apoyaban a la Unión. Ascendió a general de brigada (1864) y permaneció leal a la Confederación, incluso después de que la tribu puso fin a la alianza. Terminada la guerra, fue a Washington, D.C., en representación de los cherokees del sur.
